This weekend is a quiet, not doing much one. Last weekend was the opposite. On the Friday we gave Steven an early birthday surprise, when he turned up with Hannah for a meal at Kai's House Asian Fusion restaurant in Altrincham.
It was a successful surprise, surprising for us too as the idea for it started only a few days earlier and many of his friends managed to be there. Most of us were quite drunk before food was served, the noise from us made a restaurant sparse of patrons seem full. We went back to the house and designated driver Allison took some to get drink from Tesco. I spent a lot of time with Louise. I said it's weird how we've always had a good natter seeing each other at parties over the past couple of years but we've never taken it further.
It became a bit of an issue because I was keeping Louise to myself, her boyfriend Gray was not pleased. My thinking was, we see each other only every few months so it's likely we'll have a lot to drunkenly discuss. One matter we discussed is how it's different Louise spending time with me because I'm a guy, there's a territorial paranoia. It's caused me problems in the past, boyfriends of girlfriends getting jealous. It makes me conscious of potential problems, which was something I kept in mind on Saturday.
We went out for Alex's birthday, which was when I met her “friend” Richey for the first time. We started off in TV21 on Thomas Street, near Trof bar, where I dug my face into some of Alex's [birthday chocolate] muff[in] and received a text message from Emma saying “miss u loads!” to which I did not reply. Another Emma and her boyfriend Dave joined us, Thomas left, and then me, Alex, Richey, Gina and Mike moved on to Plastic Surgery at the Late Room on Peter Street, Emma and Dave joining us again a bit later on.
It was a bloody good night, very fun music and atmosphere. Indie/new wave places tend to go dance towards the end of the night, but here it was more classic tunes and some old school. It was all good fun, everybody dancing around and seizing photo opportunities on Alex's camera. The DJ lied when he said he'd play some Chicks on Speed or Peaches for the birthday girl, but I shall let him off because he was fit. Recently I've realised when I'm drunk I turn into a bit of a straight man, I keep ending up complimenting ladies.
I complimented one of the barmaid's black ensembles and later at the bar she called me a “swine", leading to exclaiming our affinity to Russell Brand. After the music stopped, me and Gina went along with Alex and Richey to their hotel room. The night established Richey is cool and did not have paranoia about the relationship between Alex and me. He kept making comments about things in the way that I would, so with the same thinking about things we were on a level. After some chat, music and [tobacco] smoke me and Gina left them to it, and for some reason we had a bit of a snog in the elevator. All good fun eh?
Preceding that weekend of fun I voted in the local elections on Thursday, 3rd of May. I was 1 of 2,747 voters in my ward, 36.91% of possible votes, and 1 of 237 (8.63%) people who voted for the Green Party. In the past I have voted Labour and then the Liberal Democrats. I wasn't going to vote for Labour after the Iraq war, and then I didn't like how the Liberal Democrats treated Charles Kennedy's alcoholism. Kennedy was what got my interest in his party.
I think Labour have brought about some positive changes for me personally, but I think they were done more to get in good books rather than seeing the changes as inherent to their party's beliefs. The Green Party, however, sees full equality as a fundamental principle of their party. Although I'm not that bothered about marriage myself, oh cynical me, I do believe people should have equal rights to the same things. So, along with the Green Party, I agree that gay marriage should be just that and not separate civil partnerships, and non-religious male-female couples should be granted the right to civil partnerships.
Politics were prevalent in yesterday's Eurovision Song Contest. Scooch's song Flying the Flag (For You) is a brilliant Eurovision song and was a brilliant peformance, which was not reflected in the political points. I am biased because I loved Scooch when they were first around in 2000, I do like a smörgåsbord of pop cheese. This particular song is lighthearted, cheeky and naughty — definitely danceable and I shall buy the CD single haha.
I think I have hay fever, I thought it was a dull summer cold but it seems more symptomatic of hay fever. I've not had a problem with it before. Interestingly, some things in my regular diet could be making it worse, as the Wikipedia article Oral Allergy Syndrome states that even chamomile tea can cause a reaction. I had very bad indigestion midweek for no apparent reason, but I think hay fever may be the reason. To the chemists tomorrow I shall go (and I'll lay off the chamomile).
