It was good this weekend to treat myself after starting receiving pay from the new job. I get paid weekly in this job, which is the first time I've been on anything but monthly pay since I had fortnightly pay at McDonald's back in 2002.
On Saturday I met up with Gina and her girlfriend and met one of Gina's friends. We had a few drinks and when I got home I opened a bottle of wine and ordered a pizza. I didn't realise just how tired I was and fell asleep relatively early, relative to my frequent nocturnal omissions of sleep. I had planned to do some Web work but that didn't happen on Saturday nor on Sunday.
On Sunday afternoon I met up with Emma for the first time since last year, I treated us both to a fat English breakfast inclusive of black pudding and hash browns. We then went shopping and to our dismay realised the pound store on the corner of Piccadilly and Lever Street was no longer there, but were relieved to read the notice advising the shop has moved to the location of the once Barclays Bank branch on the corner of Piccadilly and Chatham Street.
The new location gives the pound shop more room and so removes the claustrophobic excitement of pound shop purchases, but I wonder if this spot just down the road from the closed shop is too far for customers to bother walking to. It is I think currently the only pound shop in the city's centre so has this in its favour. The shop's relocation was brought on by damage to the old building from the severe weather of the other week and that building is now blocked off for demolition.
The fallen tree at the end of my road was removed today, the one across the road near my mum's house was chopped up and taken away on the Sunday after that Thursday. Back to Sunday just gone, after buying some things from the pound shop I didn't know I needed until I saw them, Emma and I went to hunt out some new but inexpensive trainers and at closing time found some that will do for my feet for now in Sports World in Manchester Arndale. We had a quick tour of the new ALDI, a short shop around but long enough to decide this supermarket's offerings are not superlative especially compared to what's available a stroll down Market Street in Tesco Metro.
So I came out of seclusion a bit this weekend, it was good to spend some time in the company of friends and spend some money. From this weekend I'll start catching up on bills, I'm clearing my overdraft and have applied for an account with another bank. My overdraft isn't even that high but charges the bank have applied have pushed the balance way past the designated limit. It will be good to have the debt cleared over the next few months and then I'll work on saving up funds for a new computer and suchlike.
I know exactly what work I will be doing for this Web site but it will take time and motivation, I'm sure I'll have another caffeine-supported session on it soon, but at the very least I'm managing to post a blog entry here and another entry there. I've been distracted settling into the job and forming a clearer plan of action for my life. I'll be at this employer for about six months, until my work there is done. I received positive feedback from my boss today, she said I am very polite and professional and I am firm with customers in obtaining the information I telephone them for. Ring, ring.
